For by grace you have been saved.

“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”—John 14:6

I believe...

“Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 1 Cor. 15:1-4

Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins according the Scriptures, was buried, and rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. We are saved by grace, not by works. You can't lose the free gift of eternal life; otherwise it wouldn't be by grace alone (you'd have to work to get it & keep it, or work to lose it) and it wouldn't be eternal.

When we believe from the heart that Jesus laid down His life for us, He takes our sin away from us and gives us His righteousness. (2 Cor. 5:21) Good works do not save us or keep us saved. The only thing that saves us is the blood of Jesus who paid the penalty for sin, and when we trust Him that He did this for us, we receive the free gift of eternal life. Although we continue to carry around our sinful flesh until our body dies, our spirit is born again, born of God. This means that our legal standing before the holy and perfect Most High God is one of righteousness. Once we are saved, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. And with the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit within us, we can begin the lifelong journey of discipleship, sanctification, service and holiness.

For a more detailed explanation of this statement, see below.

+ Sin & salvation

All have sinned (Is. 64:6, Rom. 3:23) and the wages of sin is death. (Rom. 6:23)

Jesus Christ died for our sins so we don’t have to. After being dead for three days, He came back to life and is risen. (1 Cor. 15:3-4) This happened because God loves us so much and does not want us to die. So He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, to die in our place on the cross (John 3:16) and then Jesus did not stay dead! (John 2:22, Rom. 8:34, 1 Cor. 15:20-21) He is alive now and makes intercession for us. (Rom. 8:34)

When we believe that He did this for us, trusting in His blood and not our own self-effort, we become born again. (John 3:3-18, 1 John 5:1, 1 Peter 1:22-23) He gives the free gift of eternal life to all who believe. Being a “good person” does not save us. Doing good works does not save us. Only the blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sin. We are saved by grace. (Titus 3:4-6, Rom. 6:23, Rom. 11:6, Eph. 2:8-9, 2 Cor. 5:21)

We are not saved by our works, but we are created unto good works. (Rom. 4:4-5, Eph. 2:8-10). As believers, we are commanded to do good works. (Titus 3:8) As believers, all of our works, good and bad, will be tested by fire. We will suffer loss when the bad things we’ve done will be burned, but the good things that are tested by fire will last and receive a reward. (1 Cor. 3:9-15) We who have been saved by grace do not lose the free gift of eternal life, because it is not based on what we do (our behavior) but our sincere trust in what Jesus did (gave His life). Sin is destructive, but for the believer does not result in loss of salvation. (1 Cor. 5:1-5, 2 Tim. 2:8-21)

+ Scripture

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

I believe in the authority of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation. All Scripture was written for our learning (Rom. 15:4) and needs to be read in context, handled with reverence and integrity, and applied correctly. (2 Tim. 2:15) We do not worship the written word, but the Living Word. (John 5:38-40)

The Scriptures are inerrant in their original form.

While I do not adhere to KJV-onlyism, I am concerned with the liberties man has taken with certain biblical translations. Furthermore, I absolutely do not recommend or support The Message, The New World Translation or The Passion Translation. For integrity in study, I recommend an approach that includes a solid translation such as the KJV, NKJV, NASB, or BSB along with an Interlinear that contains the original Greek and Hebrew. Many online resources such as BlueLetterBible.org, Biblegateway.com and Biblehub.com offer parallel study versions, concordances, and Greek and Hebrew versions of the Bible that can easily be used to gain a deeper understanding of the Scriptures.

But most importantly, to understand Scripture we need the guidance of the Holy Spirit who indwells all believers.

+ God

I believe in one God who is made of three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Because of His great love for us, God the Father sent His only begotten Son to die for our sins on the cross. (John 3:16) Jesus, the Son of God, is fully God and fully man. (John 1) He was born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14, Matt. 1:23, Luke 1:26-35) and lived a sinless life (2 Cor. 5:21) so He could be the perfect sacrifice and perfect High Priest (Heb. 4:14-15). When we trust in Him for salvation, we receive the Holy Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee, sealed unto the day of redemption. (Eph. 1:13-14, Eph. 4:30) The Holy Spirit is our teacher and our guide (John 14:26, John 16:13, 1 John 2:27).

Here are a few of my favorite apologists, pastors, evangelists and teachers who have ministries on YouTube.

Please keep in mind that no person is perfect, and there may be things I may not necessarily agree with in some of the messages from these teachers. However, they are 100% solid on the gospel, which is the most important thing. As always, lean not on your own understanding. Weigh everything they (and I) share according to Scripture, pray, and seek the counsel of the Holy Spirit.
